”'I’m going to KILL you!”
DJ Hallyboo, Mario Party DS Anti-Piracy, Finale
DJ Hallyboo is the main antagonist of Joey Perleoni's Mario Party DS Anti-Piracy ARG. He is designed by Morray01 and Owned by Joey. His nature is seemingly evil, but he sides with the authorities in the ARG and not the apparent "criminals" that pirated Mario Party DS. In the finale, he is played by TimVideo326 and voiced by Juno Songs who also did a lyrical cover of his theme, Host Hoedown. He is the right-hand man of the anonymous developer who worked on the antipiracy measures, and serves as his principal enforcer.
Appearance[]
DJ Hallyboo's head is completely blue, with a round nose and a mouth with two teeth sticking out and orange lips. Aside from the artwork that appears before Host Hoedown, his eyes are never seen. For clothing, he wears a dark blue top with a neat tie on the front and black-and-white striped sleeves. His hat is also dark blue, and (not seen in Host Hoedown) shows an evil-looking face with a nasty grin. Some of this detail is hidden away during the Host Hoedown minigame. It's also noted that he is usually seen carrying a microphone with him, hence his role as a host.
When he manifests into reality in the finale of the ARG, differences come into play. For one, his top is now seen to be a burgundy color instead of the blue from in-game. He also wears black trousers, what looked to be trainers and was about the same size as a normal human adult.
Sypnosis[]
The first video revolving around his existence is in Joey Perleoni's video "Personified Host", where, like with previous Anti-Piracy videos of its kind, Luigi is lagging behind in Score Scuffle. As such, DJ Hallyboo becomes aware of the pirated copy, and mentions that a good host doesn't let things slide. The starting screen for the Host Hoedown minigame is shown before the game crashes.
The following video, called "Host Hoedown", finally makes his appearance known, and the minigame he owns too. In it, Joey is tasked with writing apology letters towards DJ Hallyboo to stay in the game, but when it reaches the word "Criminal", the minigame becomes impossible, and crashes when Luigi is crushed by a Thwomp.
The last video is the last time DJ Hallyboo makes an appearance. Because it's mostly live-action, it's revealed that Joey was emulating the game on his computer, and after being beaten, he used a TASBot to cheat at the game, until the words "You" "Won't" "Like" "My" "True" "Form" appeared, and DJ Hallyboo manifested, starting with his hand. He closed the lid of Joey's laptop and flung his desk over, knocking over Joey and bringing in his microphone in the process.
After a moment of silence, DJ Hallyboo remarks that he's going to kill Joey, which prompts the latter to flee and drive off in his car. The DJ simply walks after him, not being seen in Joey's rear-view mirror, which gives him temporary relief, until the roof window is seen, showing Hallyboo had climbed on top of the car. In panic, Joey quickly slammed the brakes, throwing DJ Hallyboo off. Seconds later, Joey's car drove by and seemingly destroyed the DJ, but moments later, Hallyboo reappeared in front of him, forcing him to get out of the car and continue running.
After a bit of a chase, DJ Hallyboo forces Joey into a minigame called "Soccer Survival" (based on the minigame of the same name within Mario Party DS), where he's being chased by a giant football. After being hit by it, Joey flees again, apologizing in panic. But DJ Hallyboo, not convinced and claiming that doesn't cut it, continues pursuing him, using the DS's Anti-Piracy Self Reporter to call a police officer onto him, who arrives accompanied by the Toad seen in a McDonald's advert video. After finally being cornered, Joey explains the reasons for the piracy; all because Mario Party DS hasn't been resold in over 13 years, and that it can't be bought on any current Nintendo platforms, and asks why it's such a big deal if he had pirated the game. It wouldn't have affected Nintendo in reality anyway, since they wouldn't lose money from a game they don't make anymore.
DJ Hallyboo then remarks the ARG's main phrase, "Piracy... is No Party!", before attacking Joey and sucking him inside his DS, saying he didn't learn his lesson before destroying the whole thing. He is commended for his efforts by the officer, even when the McDonald's Toad gets in a mood over not shooting Joey. When the officer ponders about how DJ Hallyboo is there in the first place, he simply says, patting the officer's shoulder, "There are some questions that are better left unanswered". In the credits, he is seen walking off with the happy officer.
Abilities[]
- Linguistic Manipulation: It is not known exactly, but in the video Personified Host, the text turned into Japanese, but earlier, the text of the game was in English.
- Video Game Manipulation: He can manipulate the game itself. For instance, in Host Hoedown, he manipulated the game so that Joey could not write the word "criminal" and then summoned a Thwomp to crush Luigi.
- Dimensional Travel: He is able to teleport from the game into the real world as demonstrated in Finale.
- Teleportation: In Finale, he teleported behind the car of Joey. This seems to be teleportation because he was not behind the car a few seconds earlier. He teleported again on top of the car of Joey despite the fact that there were no shots of him on the road prior to this. The third time that this happened was much more explicit as it showed DJ Hallyboo materialized on the road directly in front of Joey.
- Enhanced Stamina: In the same video, there were two shots. One shot was on the aforementioned road from earlier, the third shot was on a field and the fifth shot was in a forest, which implies that they have traveled a great distance.
- Video Game Physics: He manifested a soccer ball in front of Joey and before that he shouted that this was minigame called "Soccer Survival", which implies that his powers are not limited to the video game and also extend to the real world.
- Telekinesis: The video shows him reaching out his hand and Joey falls over, which implies that he has telekinetic powers.
- Technology Manipulation: He has been shown to call a police officer with a Nintendo DS, which should not be technologically possible since the console has been discontinued and does not have cell service.
- Digital Transport: He was able to transport Joey into the Nintendo DS.
